National Student Exchange

Testimonial

I have been in Mississippi State for the 2023 spring semester, and I truly had an amazing time! The first thing I noticed was how impressive and beautiful the campus was, but also how welcoming weather was compared to our Canadian winters.

During my semester at State, I had the chance to meet some great people, learn more about the southern culture, and experience the craziness of SEC sports and the best baseball games. Now, I cannot wait to plan my next visit down in Mississippi."

Xavier Baril (Host: MSU/Spring 2023)

What is the National Student Exchange?

That National Student Exchange (NSE) provides accessible collegiate study away to undergraduate students at member colleges and universities in the United States, Canda, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In this consortium there are over 170 universities that participate.

The NSE was established in 1968 and has had more than 123,000 students participate in exchanges. Students exchange for a semester, academic year, or summer. In order to participate, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA
  • Complete at least 1 academic term before applying
  • Be in good standing on home campus

How it Works

MSU is a Home Payment school. Meaning, the student remains enrolled at Mississippi State University while studying at a host university. The student pays tuition and fees at MSU, just as if you were here, but all housing, meals and other cost will be paid at the host university. The MSU student is also responsible for travel to their host institution. Most MSU scholarships and financial aid will apply as usual on Home Pay.

Search partnering universities and find the perfect campus.

How to Apply

Learn about the application process and apply by the February 15th deadline.

Students will work with their home campus NSE coordinator and academic advisor to plan their study away. Campus placement is determined by payment plan options, academic programs, enrollment limitations, housing availability and the number of applicants. Our NSE coordinator will assist you to determine the likelihood of placement.
