International Programs
Overview of International Programs
Mississippi State University is committed as a university to enhancing the academic and research experiences of its faculty and students by maintaining an exciting array of international programs. These programs include study abroad opportunities, faculty exchanges, research collaborations, and other agreement which foster the interactions of our faculty and students with cohorts in the global community. All international program agreements are maintained in the Office of the Provost, and the International Studies and Program Committee advises the Office on new program initiatives and serves as a forum for the exchange of information on international programs (http://www.ur.msstate.edu/standing/committee.asp?ID=33).
General Study Abroad Opportunities
MSU participates in the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA) which is a regional based consortium of universities which delivers courses in English-speaking countries abroad - England, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Barbados, Jamaica, South Africa, and Singapore. Courses are typically offered between semesters and over the summer. Course credit is awarded at MSU and applicability to degree requirements is determined by individual departments. For more information: Contact CCSA, Shackouls Honors College, c210 Griffis Hall, Mississippi State, MS 39759, 662-325-2522. bgardner@honors.msstate.edu or visit the CCSA web site.
Semester-long and summer study abroad opportunities are available through International Studies Abroad (ISA). MSU is a institutional subscriber to this service which matches MSU students with opportunities in Spain, Mexico, Franc, England, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina, and Australia. Students in this program earn credit in the foreign university and transfer it back to MSU. More information can be obtained by contacting: Ms. Nancy Fultz, Office of the Provost, Box BQ, Mississippi State, MS 39762, 662-325-3742, nfultz@provost.msstate.edu or www.studiesabroad.com.
The National Student Exchange program is a consortium of more than 175 colleges and universities in the United States and extends beyond the borders of the United States to include some Canadian Provinces. Mississippi State University is a member of this program. The NSE program provides the opportunity for the eligible student to attend a college or university in another state for up to one calendar year without having to pay for the high cost of out-of-state tuition. Students register, pay tuition and fees at Mississippi State University as they usually do; they do not pay tuition and fees at the host campus, but are responsible for room and board. Mississippi State University students who participate in the National Student Exchange program remain as degree-seeking, registered students at Mississippi State University. Any financial aid that is normally available can be applied to the exchange obligations. Because NSE is an officially approved program of the university, all courses with their respective credit hours and earned grades will be recorded on the Mississippi State University transcript and be calculated in the GPA. For further information, contact the NSE Coordinator, Nancy Fultz, in the Office of Academic Affairs, 608 Allen Hall or 662-325-3742. You may also review the web site www.nse.org.
